Surfboard!

Commissioned by a friend to make his 26th Birthday, he requested a surfboard cake!
This is the result: a vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling and vanilla buttercream covering the exterior. Very yummy!

Thanks to Nick who took these amazing action photos of me finishing glittering the stars!

Hi, I stumbled upon your surfboard cake and it looks great. How did you do the shape? DId you bake 2 9 x 13s and cut them up and piece them together?

Aww thanks for the comment Daisygirl! :D
That is exactly how I created the surfboard cake. It was a lot of fun and everyone at the party really loved it!

Hi, Im wanting to make this cake for my sons beach theme party. How did you do the stars? Did you just use coloured icing or did you use somthing else like a candy or somthing? The same with the strip down the board?
Thanking you...this cake is fabulouse.

Hey Vintage Bliss-
For the stars: I made a paper stencil of a star, darkened a separate amount of yellow buttercream and piped outlines of the star onto the cake. Then I filled the inside of the star with yellow shiny sprinkles I had in my cabinet.
For the strips down the center, I just melted dark chocolate and piped two lines down the center. Keep your hands steady! The whole cake was pretty intense to make, but well worth it! Good luck!

hi again, ok...sorry for all the questions, did you leave the stencil on the cake? Or did you out line the stars on the stencil, wait till it set them placed them on the cake? Sorry for my ignorance. LOL

Place the stencil on the cake and with a piping bag, outline the star with buttercream. Once you do this, you will be able fill in the middle of your star with sprinkles. Make sense? Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Hi..Love this cake..I found you after endless searches for surfboard cake ideas..
I have a questions about the cake..it says you used 2 9x13 sized cakes and pieced them together..can you give me more detail on how you pieced them together? did you do this as a double layer cake? or just put the two together and carve around them?
I am actually attempting this tomorrow for a party on friday
thank you

Hi there- I put both 9X13 cakes together to form one long cake. I used my icing to bind them together and then carved the outside edges to form the surfboard shape.
Good luck with your cake!
